You may not know if your horse has a problem.
It isn’t always obvious when your horse sustains an injury. Sometimes it is, like when your horse lands wrong off a fence and is immediately lame, or when you see your horse fall or get cast. But most times we don’t know that an injury has occurred, we don’t always see the fall or recognize the damage that occurs in daily training or competition. We might notice subtle changes in the way our horse is going or behaving, but these changes are often attributed to other factors.
Sometimes when things don’t feel quite right or you are struggling with a training or behavioural issue, it can be the result of an injury, a physical inability to perform an exercise, or pain or discomfort. Your horse does not have to present with a head bobbing lameness to be unsound or have an injury. Unsoundness can be very subtle in the early stages, but can become more evident over time as more damage is done. Early detection and correction is the key to keeping your horse healthy.
An assessment can determine if your horse has any physical issues and provide you with the options and information you need to keep your horse sound.
Or you can learn more about recognizing unsoundness and what is normal and what isn’t by taking one of our clinics, such as Introduction to the Equine Athlete© or Injury Alert!©
